WE LUNG-TON RACES. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting opened at Trenthani to-day in fine, warm weather. The track was •fast and in first-class order. The attendance was good. The win and place system of wagering proved popular, and the dividends for third were consistently good, while the three straight-out prices of Royal Artist, Guarantee and Broken Rule were very substantial. The totalisator handled straight-out, £7336; and place, £14,475, a' total of £21,811, against £26,48 10s on the ‘first day last year, a decrease of £4672 10s. Results (the first figure relating to the straight-out win and the second figure to the place favouritism): Trenthani Iligliweight Handicap, 1 mile. —1/1 Beau Gallante (C. Thompson) 1. 12/11 Cape Fair 2, S/S Monastic 3. Also started: 11/9 Juggle, 3/4 Saltpot, 5/5 Jayson, 7/6 Nightguard, 10/12 Palace, 6/7 Blacksmith, 4/3 Clangor, 11/13 Chile, 9/10 Flower, 12/11 Golden Horn (coupled with Cape Fair), 2/2 Chief Dive. Beau Gallante, with Clangor, led to the straight. Monastic challenged, but Beau ‘Gallante. won comfortably, Monastic weakening to be beaten in the last stride by Cape Fair. Chief Line was fourth. A length; half a neck. Time, 1.411. WELLINGTON (STAKES, 5 furlongs. 6/5 Guarantee (A. Russell) 1 3/3 Midinette (B. H. Morris) 2 7/6 (Lack (L. G. Morris) ■? Also started: S/S Inflation, 6/7 Good Hunting, 9/9 Importance, 2/2 Princess Doreen, 1/1 Diatomous, 4/4 Fracas. Diatomous was left at the barrier, but led into the straight, with Midinette, Lack, and then Guarantee, Good Hunting and [Princess Doreen. Diatomous stopped quickly, and Midinette reached the. front, but Guarantee pressed solidly to win narrowly by a neck. Lack was two lengths back, third, and then came Inflation and Diatomous. Apprentices’ Plate, 7 furlongs.— 10/11 Broken Rule (Webby) 1, 10/12 Niggerhead 2, 3/3 Farmer 3. Also started: 15/17 Royal King, 12/14 Ben Hur, 4/6 Azalea, 7/7 Beaconsfield, 5/4 Aiguille, 9/9 Eminent, 8/S Worship, 16/17 Milnrow, 17/15 Purse, 13/1S Sage, 13/10’ Lancet .and Posy (bracketed), 6/5 Chock Say, 14/16 Aroma, '2/2. Glenvane, 12/13 iGlowliglit, 1/1 Argentic. Broken Rule and Niggerhead were always handy, Purse making the pace to the straight. Broken Rule came through on the rails to snatch a win by half a head. Farmer was a neck behind Niggerhead and Azalea was fourth. Time, 1.274.

•Fitzherbert Handicap, 5 furlongs.— 1/1 Porotiti ('B. H. Morris) 1, 4/4 Pegged Exchange 2, 2/2 (Lady Nan 3. Also started: 5/5 Bon Rapide, 10/10' Quebec, 3/3 Sweet Agnes, 8/9 Catalogue, 7/7 Safari, 6/6 Dover Patrol and Snowball (bracketed), 9/8 Hint. Porotiti was always hear the front and won well by a neck from Pegged Exchange, with Lady Nan 'a- head away- Sweet Agnes was prominent early and finished fast for fourth. Time, 60 ; }see. •

Callaiiam) 3 Also, started: 4/4 Concentrate, 5/6 Great Star, .2/3 Gold Trail, 14/14 Seatown, 1/2 Jaloux, 9/7 Red Heckle, 11/13 Merry Peel, 7/S Red Sun, 6/5 Retract, 12/11 Tout le Mond, 20/16 My Own, 17/15 Refresher, 13/14 Juniper, 19/17 Lyrical, S/ll Rocket, 13/10 Greenhorn, 16/12 Princess Argosy. Princess Argosy and. Refresher set a strong pace, Gold Trail, Jaloux, Great Star, Fiji, and Red Heckle all being handy. Antique was well back. There was little alteration to the straight, where Royal Artist moved up on the rails, Antique coming on the outer. The leaders stopped, Fiji and Antique hitting the front. Antique had the race won 50 yards off the post, but weakened in the last strides, Royal Artist continuing his run on the rails to snatch victory by half a neck. Fiji was only a nose away, third, and Jaloux was fourth. Time, 2.314. Anniversary Handicap, 1 mile. —1/3 Ruling Light (P. J. McKay) 1, 6/9 Talioma 2, 2/2 Drumfire 3. Also started: 13/10 Shatter, 9/5 Awaken, S/7 Ranelagh, 3/1 Richfield, 14/14 Martian Chief, 6/6 'Gay Court, 1:2/8 La. Poupee, 6/12 Rational 11., 10/13 Tippling, 4/4 Gold Pit, 10/11 Wise Choice. Ruling Light was always in front, with Drumfire, and drew away for :a comfortable neck win from Talioma, who just headed Drumfire. Shatter finished very well for fourth. Time, 1.40. Telegraph Handicap, 6 furlongs.—l/1 Autopay (!L. G. Morris) 1, 6/5 Souchong 2, 12/12 Pomp 3. Also started: 7/6 Golden. Wings, S/7 Cricket Bat, 9/9 Orapai, 10/10 La Moderne, 5/3 The Quorn, 3/2 Lordly Knight, 11/11 Grecian Prince, 2/4 The Tiger, 4/3 Miladi, 13/13 Hurlingham. Souchong led to the straight, with Pomp, from Autopay, Cricket Bat, Orapai and The Quorn. Autopay drew away in the run home for a very decisive win by just over a length. Pomp was a head behind Souchong, and Lordly Knight was fourth. Golden Wings, The Tiger and Grecian Princo were hopelesslv left. Time, 1.114.
