CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
NOW IN FULL SWING. Despite a certain measure of uncertainty as to the future the spirit, of Christmas is now generally in evidence in Masterton. Yesterday was a busy day around the shops, gift buyers being very active. Although the general, tendency is to buy presents of a moreI’*' 1 ’*' or les9 useful nature novelties are not being neglected. A round of the Masterton shops reveals that they- are well stocked and that quality is up to the usual high standard. Prices,.in the main, are lower than last year and at a point which generally attract. The next two days should see a large influx of shoppers into the town. ■ It might- be as well here to remind the public that the shops close at 5.30 p.mf to-morrow instead of remaining open in the evening as is the usual custom on Fridays. On Saturday, Christmas Eve, the shops will remain open until 10 p.m. As Christmas Day falls on a -Sunday this year Monday and Tuesday of next week will be observed as holidays but the: shops will open at the usual hour on Wednesday morning.
