A CENTRAL SCHOOL
PRIZES PRESENTED. The annual break-up of the Masterton Central School was held in the Assembly Hall yesterday. r lhe School Committee was represented by Messrs. A. Williams and R. Russell. Mr AVilliams congratulated the pupils and the staff on the good work done during the year, and extended to all the committee’s best wishes for a joyous vacation. The proficiency, competency and garden certificates were then presented. An enjoyable programme, arranged by Miss Armstrong, was given, the items being as follow: Song, Oathleon Pitt, Ray Real], Helen Gaskin, Myra Small; recitation, Joan Wylie; song, Gillian Gooder. Dorothy Heaven, Bessie Trudgean: mouth organ solo, Robert llaiiaghan; recitation, Elva Williams; song, Joy Grantham. After the concert programme Mr 11. Mc.Feely addressed the pupils. He said their break-up was tinged with sadness as it was the last time they would have their esteemed headmaster, Mr R. 0. Drummond, with them in his official capacity. Mr Drummond could well he looked upon as the children’s friend in a special sense, and in the rears to come, they would look back with gratitude to all that Mr Drummond had done for them. Mr Williams said that Mr Drummond was held in the highest esteem by the parents, Education Board and committee, all of whom fully recognised the good work he, had done. The high standing of the Central School proved that their guest had not laboured in vain. He wished Air and Airs Drummond much happiness in the years to come. AH- Russell stressed the cordial relations that, had always existed between Air Drummond and the committee, who fully recognised the great work Air Drummond had done. Aiiss Alollv Stimpson, on behalf of the pupils, presented Air Drummond with a golf bag and clubs, and in a neat little, speech expressed the pupils’ love for him. Atiss Betty Braggins then presented Airs Drummond, with a- set of handsome cups and saucers of blue and gold. The pupils of the. higher classes sang a farewell song, specially composed for the occasion by Aliss Armstrong, amember of the teaching staff. Air Drummond, in reply, thanked the children sincerely for their gift, and said he hoped to make full use of it. The only parting advice he would give the,m was to be honest and work hard. He' regretted leaving them all for lie had a very happy time at Central School.
Cheers were then given for Air and Airs Drummond.
