CARE OF THE CHILD.

Masterton is in the enviable position of having Homes which care for unfortunate children in a manner unsurpassed in the Dominion—in fact, we venture to say that the management and general conduct of these Homes are un-

equalled anywhere in Xew Zealand. It is due to devotion and loyal service to the children on the nart of splendid citizens — women and men —that the local Homes are models of what such institutions should be. The Masterton Methodist Children’s Home is an outstanding example of selfsacrifice in the cause of the child. In this institution there is a particularly happy atmosphere, where the inmates are children of one great family, with the excellent matron as mother, and where the children romp and play and are taught a Christian life in a spirit that is free from the over-stern rale so often associated with Homes. In the Methodist Home there is the atmosphere which the Carpenter of Nazareth created in His association with the children of that ancient city, so closely connected with the true foundation of Christianity. To Him the child’s present and future —its life and its prospects —were the Alpha and Omega of everything. That is the principle upon which the Masterton Methodist Church conducts its Home. The Home is kept going by voluntary subscriptions and bequests, and the annual appeal for funds which is now being made is worthy of the warmest support of the citizens of Masterton.
