ILLEGAL DELIVERY
LIQUOR SALE CHARGES. “I must protest against the remarks made by the Sergeant. If lie had lcason to believe that it is his duty to bring the person here.” The above statement was made in the Magistrate’s Court this morning In- Mr H. 11. Daniell, who appeared on behalf of Andrew Chapman, a service car driver, charged with bringing liquor into a no-license area without a signed order from the purchaser and also with delivering liquor which was not labelled as such. When the case of Brian O’Connor, charged with supplying one gallon of beer at Taratahi to Chapman to be taken into a no-license district, such sale not being in pursuance of the terms of an order signed by the purchaser, was called, Sergeant Dyer said lie had reason to believe that a. lot of this kind of trading was being carried on. Orders were also given over the telephone and executed, which was illegal. On the charge of bringing in liquor to Masterton without the requisite order, -Chapman, who pleaded guilty, was fined £3 and on the other charge £l. lie was also ordered to pay costs of £l. O'Connor, who supplied the liquor, was fined £3, with 10/- costs.
