MARCH ON WINNIPEG
BY STRUGGLING FARMERS. APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT. WINNIPEG, Monday. Representatives of the 500 farmers who demonstrated on the steps of the Legislative Buildings to-day told the Premier, Mr J. Bracken, that the struggle for their rights was being carried on by the Farmers’ Unity League. It had just begun, and would continue until results were forthcoming. They asked from the Manitoba Government that all farmers’ incomes amount to ait least £4OO a year; that land seized far non-payment of taxes be given to poor farmers; and that needy fanners bo provided with free medical treatment, education for their children in high and technical schools, clothing, motor licenses for motor trucks, and contributory insurance against old age, illness and incapacity.
An attempt of the Winnipeg unemployed to take advantage of tire invasion of Manitoba tanners to niaito a demonstration was foiled when a. crowd of 2000 was dispersed by massed motorcycle police. The crowd reassembled outside the Legislative Buildings, where the Premier met. the fanners’ delegation behind locked doors.
