<' He avlio smokes dines. So runs tlie old Spanish proverb, and many a smoker can testify to its truth. As a regular substitute for food, tobaccosmoke is, of course, of little value. But it will certainly deaden -t-lie pangs of hunger for a time. It is, however, more useful as a tranquilliser of the mind in times of mental stress. At such moments, as every smoker knows, it is extremely soothing and comforting. Care should be exercised in its selection, though. If the beneficent influence of the weed is to be enjoyed to the fullest possible extent it must- be pure and of the finest quality. The New Zealand tobacco is the best because the toasting process to which it is subjected extracts the nicotine from it, and it is rendered safe to smoke to any extent. The toasting also gives this tobacco its world-famed flavour and delightful aroma. Only four brands: Biverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish, and Cut Plug No. 10. Beware of imitations!
