OBITUARY

ME. FRANK STAINS. The death occurred at the Public Hospital this morning of a well known and highly respected resident of Masterton for many years in the person of Mr Frank Stains. The late Mr Stains was born 62 years ago-, in Devon, England. He arrived in New Zealand with his parents 55 years ago, and after spending two year’s in Wellington he came to the Wairarapa district where he has resided continuously up till the time of his death. For many years he was in business as a cab proprietor, and later as a wood aird coal merchant in Masterton. Latterly he was in the employ of Messrs' Fly and Young, Ltd. The late Mr Stains is survived by one son, Mr F. Stains, Miriam Street, and one daughter, Mrs H. Carswell (Carrington) and two half brothers, Mr E. B. Hunt (Mild Mild) and Mr 11. 11, Hunt (Masterton), and one half sister Mrs J. Barnes (Masterton), who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. His wife predeceased him fifteen years ago.

The funeral will leave the residence 3 Miriam Street at 2.30 p.m. to-mor-row (Wednesday).

It is with regret that his friends in Masterton will learn of the death of Mr Douglas Nelson (Doug.) Edwards, which occurred at his residence, Lower Hutt, this morning, after , a .. short illness. The late Mr Edwhrds was born in Nelson 47 years ago. : 'For many years lie resided in Pahiatua as representative for the Vacuum Oil Company, and later he came to Masterton to represent the same firm. He resided here for some years and was active in assisting those projects which were for the advancement of the town. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Masterton Competitions Society, Masterton Bowling 'Club and Masonic Lodge. He was formerly a member of the' Wairarapa Rugby Union. He was of a very congenial disposition, and was always ready to help in the cause of charity. He was a member of the Commercial Travellers’ Association and Male Choir, and always assisted them in their efforts for local benefits. For the past four or five years Mr Edwards has resided at the Lower Hutt where his Company transferred him. The late Mr Edwards married while in Pahiatua Miss Alice Selby, daughter of Mr and Mrs Selby, of Masterton. He is survived by a widow and family of four grown-up children, who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral will leave Mr G. Hyde’s Chapel, Church Street, Masterton, at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday for the Masterton cemetery.
