UNEMPLOYMENT.
That the heart of Masterton is right is shown by the efforts that are being made by the majority of the people of the town and country to assist their less fortunate citizens in the trying time which the Dominion is passing through. If every town in New Zealand gave as much attention to its poor and needy as Masterton does, there would be less hardship experienced by those whost lot is cast in hard places. A very pleasing feature about the unemployed situation is the fact that the unemployed are prepared to help themselves, and not sit back and be content to let others do the work. The winter will be a tryingtime for the unemployed, who cannot look to the Government for any additional assistance, so that there will be a greater responsibility placed upon the shoulders of local people than should really be the case. Masterton, however, will be found equal to the occasion, for its various organisations are ready to help the genuine poor; and needy whenever that assistance is required.
