WAIRARAPA UNION. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. GREYTOWN V. OLD BOYS. A DRAWN GAME. In a match which was not productive of the standard of football one would wish to see, Old Boys and Greytown shared the points in a. drawn match played at Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon. With tlio score at 6—3 against them, Old Boys were perhaps a little lucky to equalise right on time. Roach’s goal from a none-too-easy angle and a good way out, was certain y Hie best individual effort of the match. The teams were as follows: ■Greytown. P. Jury, Bouzaid, Brnnton Peterson, O. Strmgfellow Udy, Hii’oti, Rewi, Rangi, Barney, Jackson Hills, Brooks, W. StringfeUow and Be old Boys.— Roach, Evcritt, Faulkner, B Smith, Barnes, Tocker, Logan, Clarke Wainscott, Aitken, Piasei Smith) Laing, MaCalmont, Cooper and Walcelin. Shortly afterwards, R. Hills, of Greytown, was injured, and had to leave the held, suffering from slight concussion. He was replaced by Jaro. Tv, attempts by Aitken to goal failed. Play for a time centred in mid-field, but neither side showed particular brilliance, although Old Boys were very smart m any tackling required. The scrummages were marked by many breaches of the rules, and the whistle bad to be used quite a lot. In the last fifteen minutes Old Boys tried hard to equalise and for the greater part of that peiiod had Greytown well hemmed in to thenown twenty-five. As already stated, Roach go ale don time, and the match ended in a draw—Old Boys 6, Greytown Mr F. Dean was the referee, and did his job -with the utmost impartiality, and let few breaches of the rules escape his eye. RED STAR v. GLADSTONE. The Red Star seniors defeated Gladstone, at Gladstone, on Saturday, by 24 points to 6, outclassing the strong Gladstone team in a game full of incident. Though a much lighter pack, the ■Star forwards played vigorous f 00.,ball, and repeatedly broke away in hue dashes. The Star backs were superior to Gladstone. About a quarter of an hour after the start of the game, Southey scored a try for Red Star. B. Clarke converted. Gladstone livened up, and faulty handling by the Star backs let Nunn through for an unconverted try. Red Star then attacked vigorously, their forwards putting great dash into their play. _B. Clarke lost possession near the lme, but Heebie picked up and crossed. F. Clarke converted. The Red Stars kept up the pressure and put on eight points in quick time, R .Devine and Page scoring tries, one of which was converted by F. Clarke. Gladstone attacked for some time, but the defence. of the visitors was sound. In the closing stages of the game, Keeble and Carrig both scored unconverted tries for Stars, and just before time, McKay touched down for Gladstone. Mr H. Matson was the referee. FEATHERSTON v. MASTERTON. A fast and interesting game was played at Featlicrston, when Featherston beat Masterton by 13 points to 8. The issue was in doubt right up to the last. Featherston led by 3 to nil at half-time, Himona scoring an unconverted try. Early in the second spell, a passing rush saw Himona score and convert. Then Masterton rushed play to the Featherston line, where J. Pickering scored for W. Whiteman to convert. Soon afterwards, Flutev scored for Featherston and Himona converted. Just before time, M. McMillan scored a splendid try.for Masterton, making the final score: Featherston 13, Masterton 8. Mr H. J. McKenzie was the referee. CARTERTON v. DALEFIELD. Displaying superior speed, fitness and combination, Carterton defeated Dalefield at the Carterton showgrounds by 16 points to 3. The first try came when Denby dummied to score between the posts. Henderson failed with the kick. Dalcfield evened up shortly afterwards, when Tinsley worked his way across for a good try. Jensen missed the kick. Dalefield had the better of matters in the first spell, but- Carterton’s fitness told in the second half. Carterton increased their tally when Trapp scored. M. Knowles converted. A few minutes later Anderson crossed, but the try was not converted. Later F. Fitzgerald scored, and M. Knowles converted. Mr A. Taylor was tho referee. JUNIOR. Martinborough 57, Dalefield 0. Greytown 22, Tuhirangi 0.
