STARVING FAMILIES.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —If people in Masterton are short of food it should be brought under the notice of those more fortunately placed, and not hidden. To obtain food for the unemployed, I would suggest that on Wednesday’s classes be formed for teaching country people first aid, gardening, knitting, crochet and fancywork, with the addition of lectures. A small fee could be charged, or country people could bring in butter, eggs, meat, wood, vegetables or other items, including used boots, clothes, etc. It would bring town and country peop.'i together, and many a woman would spend a pleasant and also a profitable hour while waiting for the men-folk to return from the sales. I am, etc., FARMER’S WIFE. Carterton, 18th March.
