ART UNIONS
MAY BE BANNED. The art union at. present being run throughout New Zealand is the last of the series for which permission has been given, and it is possible that the Government will place a ban on art unions after this one has been drawn. No official opinion on the question ,;as been expressed, but it is understood that Cabinet will review the whoic question at an early date. It is admitted that, on the whole, art unions have been run for deserving causes, but the conditions under w.nmi they are being run is causing dissatisfaction. If any permits are granted in the future it is almost certain that me conditions of tlicir issue will be mnc.i stricter than in the past. The art unions for which permits have been granted were sanctioned by the United Government, and the whole position will be reviewed by the Coalition Cabinet So far no time has been availa.i.o ..0 deal with the question, but it will have to be raised soon. There is a decide l possibility that a stop will be put to this method of raising money.
