Passenger (narrating sea disaster): "The wind whistled and shrieked balefully. The wild waves swept o’er our frail decks. To my horror, I saw the first mate carried overboard, and fall down —down into that churning abyss —never to be seen again.” Dear Old Lady (timidly): "Was he drowned?” Passenger (sarcastically): "No, he just sprained his ankle.” Lawrence of Arabia. Lawrence of Arabia, the man who gained fame in the war, has proved himself to be an excellent motor cyclist, and he is now developing into a skilful speed boat pilot. Officially known <as Aircraftman E. Edward Shaw, attached to Mount Batten Air Station, he is engaged, as part of his normal Royal Air Force duties, in trying out boats on Southampton Water. The development of fast boats is of great importance to the flying boat and seaplane squadrons. Lawrence is to be seen frequently speeding down the Solent when employed on these motor boat tests.
