LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs L. B. Maunsell presided over a very large attendance of members and friends at the monthly meeting of the League of Mothers, held at Mrs Maunsell’s residence, Lansdowne, yesterday. Mrs H. E. Fisher, of Wellington, delivered an address on gardening to an appreciative audience. Mrs Fisher spoke of the need for small home gardens, especially nowadays, when economy must bo rigidly practised. Gardening might also become a bond between parents and their children. Mrs Fisher made special reference to what could be done in the garden at present. Anything that was grown in the garden and not otherwise used should be returned to the soil to provide mature plant food. Propagation of plants by cuttings, seeds, etc., was mentioned, and a demonstration was given of the planting of a seedling. Women had a special gift of making colour pictures with flowers grown in the garden, and this should bo cultivated.

Mrs Maunsell proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Fisher, which was carried by acclamation. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by Mrs Maunsell, and the guests then visited the beautiful gardens.
