When the British Prime Ramsay MacDonald, entered the House of Commons on Monday for the first time since liis operation, he received a hearty welcome from members. Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, relieving magistrate, will fill the vacancy in the Hawke’s, Bay district absence of the resident magistrate, Mr A. M. Mowiem, who leaves this week on a holiday visit to the Old Country. A Sydney cable states that the death is reported at Newcastle of Mr Charles Hibble, former chairman of the Coal Tribunal, aged sixty-six years. Born in New Zealand, he had a distinguished career in New South Wales. ' ? At its meeting last night the Borough Council decided to support a protest from the Petoue and Lower liutt Gas Co. in regard to the charges made in connection with the administering ofthe Gas Regulations. A formal protest is to be forwarded to the National penditure Commission. General and Mrs Higgins, the international leaders of the Salvation Army, who are shortly to make a New Zealand, will visit Masterton on Thursday, 24th March. They will arrive from Palmerston North in the morning and will be accorded a civic welcopie by the Mayor, Mr T, Jordan, in the Municipal Hall, at 11.30 a.m.
