AVIATION IN MASTERTON.
The Wairarapa Aero Club is performing a useful national service in fostering an “air spirit” in the Wairarapa, and in providing facilities which, should there be an outbreak of war and New Zealand attacked by an enemy from the air, will prove of the greatest assistance to the authorities in the defence of the Wairarapa and the contingent districts. In the training of pilots and the instruction that is imparted to the pupils, the club is giving service which is again national. We have always strongly supported the establishment of an aerodrome in Masterton, as we are convinced of its value to the district in encouraging aviation, and of its necessity to New Zealand as a trainingground and an important factor in the defence of the Dominion. The club is excellently managed, and has for its secretary, Mr H. A. R. Dunderdale, a particularly capable official, who is keen on his work, and who realises the valuable asset the club and aerodrome is from the national point of view. The aerodrome at Masterton is part and parcel of the defensive system of New Zealand, and as such should be liberally subsidised by the Government.
