A SHEFFIELD SHIELD. S. AUSTRALIA v. QUEENSLAND. BRISBANE, Alonday. In the Sheffield Shield match, South Australia v. Queensland, South Australia in the first innings scored 410 (Catehlove, not out, 103). Gilbert took four wickets for 98 runs, and Thurlow four for 106. Queensland lias six wickets down for 255 (Cook 52, Hansen 44). The Jamaican batsmen, G. Headley, has been the prime factor in the two splendid victories over the AI.C.C. side at present touring the West Indies, for he made 344 not out in the first match, and his double in the next engagement was S 4 and 152 not out, thus giving him an average of SSO! When Calthorpe’s English team was out in the Indies in 1930, Headley made four centuries in tho Tests, including 114 and 112 in the third. It was on that tour that “Patsy” Hendren scored six centuries and averaged 126 for 19 innings in all games. Hendren exceeded 200 on four occasions, and in every one of tiiese innings he- carried his bat. Headley was an applicant for the position of coach at Accrington, the Lancashire club with which Alan Fairfax (X.S.W.) signed on.
