(Received Thursday, 9.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Found with an electric battery, after having ridden the horse Fidele in the Rosebery Handicap at the Rosebery unregistered meeting, WT. Donaldson, a jockey, was disqualified for life. The stewards' recently were told, by an ex-jockey, that batteries were used freely at pony meetings. PAHIATUA RACES. SECOND DAY. PAHIATUA, This Day. Bryce’s trotting stables at Hornby, containing several well-known horses, was seriously endangered by a lire which broke out in standing crops on Tuesday night, but the flames were subdued after a hard fight by hundreds of workers. The farm buildings were slightly damaged.

One of the worst behaved horses at the barrier at the present time is Mr. C. T. Keeble’s four-year-old Jayson. He ran each day at Trentliam last week. On the first occasion the starter, Mr. W. Price, effected a very speedy despatch. Jayson must have been caught napping, because he was on ns way before he had time to try Ins tricks. Just to show what he could do if he behaved himself, he won. On the other days, he succeeded m holding up the start considerably. llis system is to'alternate dashing through the barrier with going into line stern first. It will be recalled that he managed to get away badly when heavily backed at Riccarton in November.

Semper Paratus, who belongs to the class of gay deceivers, may not race again. He is under offer to a Hawke’s Bay sportsman for use as a show hack. A brother to Cricket Bat, he could gallop well on the track, but would not do his best in public.

Like Nightmarch, Roydon having completed a season at the stud, is to attempt to come back to racing. This English horse, 1 who belongs to Mr. J. It. McKenzie, has joined Gustavo in the stable of F. P. Claridge. Leg trouble prevented his being raced in New Zealand previously, but it is hoped that he will now stand a preparation. Roydon (1927) is by Ellangowan (son of Lemberg) from Vibration, by Black Jester from Radiancy, by Sundridge from Queen Elizabeth, by Ladas.

Convoy, who had a Mark Twain experience after he broke a fetlock, while galloping at Riccarton last month, is reported to be really dead this time. An attempt was made to save the threeA’ear-old, but when it was realised that the case was hopeless, his trainer, F. Christmas, had him shot. A brother to Red Heckle, Convoy had shown that he could gallop and his fatal accident represents a severe loss.

' G. Murray Aynsley has given Iloa to R. Adamson. Hoa has the distinction of being the last of the stock of that great sire Martian. He is from Contempt, sister to Reproachful, dam of Chide and Riri, also to Disdainful, dam of Mesprisant. Murray Aynsley once had high hopes for this gelding, who is now a four-year-old, but Hoa has been a failure so far.

Mrs. J. Campbell has sent Fortune’s Wheel, Dollar Raid and Storm Raid home, and it is possible that they will not again be placed in training. At present she has only Ma Belle Polly

and Balraizei in hand, but Thurina who won two hack steeplechases _at the Grand National meeting, will join t.iem in the near future.

New Zealand is likely to be stiongly represented in two-year-old events ift Australia this autumn. An addition to the youngsters who were shipped last week, namely, Prolyxo, Closing Time, Rulanut, and Cape Royal, is Prince Pombal, tho relative to Veilmond. Prince Pombal ran a good second to Hilary at Trehtham last week and it is now practically certain that he will be sent to Sydney, where he holds an engagement in the A,J.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes. This event carries £SOOO added money in addition to a sweepstake of £2O each. Dominionbred winners of the race in recent years have been Ammon Ra (1931), Honour (1929), Los Gatos (1925), and The Monk (1923). Los Gatos and Tho Monk were, however, owned by Australians when they won.

According to the Sydney writer “’Cardigan,” there is still a doubt as to whether Amnion Ra will run in the V.R.C. St. Leger, because Mr. C. C. Sheath, his owner, is particularly anxious that the gelding should not be raced over long courses before he is thoroughly, wound up. In fact, the writer continues, if intentions are ad-' hered to, Amnion Ra will run in the Essendon Stakes on the opening day of the Flemington meeting. It is possible that he will have one race before the Futuritv Stakes, and it will be either the C.‘ F. Orr Stakes at Williamstown or in olio of the short ra-ccs oil the opening day of the Y.A.T.C. autumn meeting. The race in the Futurity Stakes of seven furlongs, will bring him to his best for the Essendon Stakes on the first day at Flemington and he will run again in tho C. M. Llyod Stakes of one mile on the final day of the V.R.C. meeting. Ammon Ra will then return to Sydney and, all going well, he will run in the weight-for-age races at Rosehill and at Warwick Farm to fit him for the A.J.C. St. Leger. It is a sound programme, and by the time the classic is run at Randwick Ammon Ra should be a very fit horse and equal to the task of running a mile and three-quarters right out.
