BOWLING

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The New Zealand Bowling Association’s annual tourney concluded today, when the pairs championship was decided. A north-west gale blowing made good bowling impossible, the bowls refusing to maintain their bias. On many occasions a likely-looking king bowl was brought to a stop some distance from the head. The postsectional play resulted: Ilardley beat Shaw, 19/15; Deare beat Wilson, 2z/l. In the semi-finals, Haworth beat Deare and Hardley beat Martin, 20/19. In the final, W. Bremner and C. Hardley (West End, Auckland) beat W. G. Avcs and R. Haworth (Canterbury), 25/9.

Conditions in the final game between C. Hardley and Haworth were such as to spoil any attempt to give a good exposition of the game. Both skips and leads, however, made the most of their opportunities. The Aucklanders played steadily and scored constantly while the Canterbury men missed shots that could have been to their advantage. The actual scores, 25 to 9 in Auckland’s favour, did not reflect the powers of the players of either team, but that the win was a wellmerited one was beyond question. — (P.A.).
