RELIEF WORKERS’ STRIKE
STANDARD WAGES WANTED. No ITutt unemployed manned relief jobs on Saturday, the works being picketed with a view to persuading men to stay off until the present dispute is settled. On Friday no men responded to the suggestion that they should resume work in the morning, but-as it was a public holiday it was thought that there would be more response on Saturday. Such was not. the case. As a result of further meetings it has been decided to recommend to the meeting of relief workers in Wellington to-morrow that there be a complete cessation of work on relief jobs until standard rates are paid. A central strike committee has been set up, and after to-morrow’s meeting it is intended to get into touch with other centres in New Zealand with the idea of making the stoppage of relief work a national movement.
