WOOL MARKET

AUCKLAND SALE,

OFFICIAL PRICE RANGE,

AUCKLAND, Tuesday

The second Auckland wool sale of the season was held to-day, when 25,275 bales were offered to a large and representative bench of buyers. Prices were approximately on a par with those at the unsatisfactory opening sale of the season, with halfbreds ,]d to Id better, in sympathy with the improvement in tho south, but the recent improvement in crossbreds was not fully maintained and there were reductions of -]d to Id as compared with the last Napier sale.

The average price for good crossbreds was a shade under 5d or £7 per bale. Top price of lljd was paid for fire bales of Southdown A re-classed wool. Two other lots brought lid. The great bulk of the offering was new season’s wool, but the prices failed to reach growers’ reserves for 35 per cent, of the catalogue. The following official report was issued by tho wool brokers: “Bidding was animated at times, but was somewhat erratic. About 65 per cent, of the offering was sold under the hammer. Tho wool generally was not in as good condition as at tho first Auckland sale, except for a few super lines. Prices generally were about a halfpenny up on halfbreds, in sympathy with southern sales, but medium and low crossbreds, unless showing style, did not attract much competition.’’
