About 7.60 o’clock last night on the main Wellington-Mastertou highway near the Tauherenikau School a light motor driven by W. D. Martin, of High Street, Carterton, collided with a heavy lorry driven by It. B. Lambert, of Masterton, and owned by the Allison Transport Company. The truck left the road and overturned, precipitating four girls, who were travelling on it to a dance at Featherston, to the road. They were all injured and Norine Glasgow, Greytown, suffering from injuries to her collarbone; Lillian Taylor, of Carterton, back injuries; and Elizabeth • Cunningham, head injuries, were admitted to the Masterton Hospital. The fourth girl, Dulcie Carty, of Carterton, was severely bruised and shaken and was taken to her home after medical attention. of the light truck tyres blew out, causing the?driver to lose control of the ,vehicle, resulting in it striking the front mudguard of the approaching heavy transport lorry.
