GUARANTEE RENEWED

ON FRUIT EXPORTS. EXPORTERS TO PAY LEVY. WELLINGTON, Monday. With one important exception, the Government guarantee on fruit exports for the 1932 season has been renewed on almost exactly the same basis, according to an official statement by the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board to-day. This year, however, exporters must contribute lid a case for all fruit exported under guarantee and this levy will be paid into a central fund, which will be drawn on by the Government- to meet all claims arising out of market and transportation loss-

The Government guarantee is renewed on the basis of 11s a ease for extra fancy and fancy grades of the more important varieties. A sum of 7s a case will be guaranteed for extra fancy and fancy grades of the less important varieties and for good grades of all varieties. The only exception relates to Stunners, on which the guarantee will be 11s a case only until April ?.Q, On Stunners sorted for export on and after May 1, the guarantee will be 7s a case, irrespective of grade. The guarantee will only apply to approved varieties, which are shipped from New Zealand on or before May 25. The Government makes the guarantee conditional upon each exporter contributing lid a case for all fruit exported under guarantee. This levy will be paid into a central fund which will be utilised by the Government to meet all claims arising from market and transportation losses. If the fund is not fully utilised, the Government will determine how the balance will be disposed of. If the fund is not sufficient, tho Government will bear the rest of the expense that may be involved. In other words, where the Government in the past undertook the full responsibility of the guarantee, it is now asking the industry to bear a portion. —(P.A.).

FRUIT DISEASE. AUSTRALIAN IMPORTS BLAMED. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. That the importation of fruit from Australia was responsible for disease in Now Zealand orchards was the contention of members of the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association, expressed at a meeting here. It was decided to draw the attention of the Minister of Agriculture to tho subject, and to urge the necessity for the prohibition of Australian fruit imports.—-(P.A.)
