CABINET SITTING
THE COMING SESSION INCREASED TAXES LIKELY. WELLINGTON, Monday. Cabinet sat this evening to discuss the financial position of the country ahd plans for the legislative programme for the emergency session. Many important decisions will be delayed until recommendations have been made by the Special Economic Commismission, the personnel of which will be announced shortly. The Prime Minister hopes to make an announcement regarding the Commission before the end of the week. It is expected that the Commission will an interim report in order that its recommendations may be embodied in the legislation of the emergency session. Declining revenue and the need for additional funds for unemployment relief make it apparent that increased taxation is likely if the Unemployment Board’s work is to be extended. The removal of award restrictions —-checking employment, especially those relating to apprentices, is believed to be another important' line of legislation likely to be dealt with. —(P.A.)
