The engagement is announced of Janet Muir, fourth daughter of Mr. A. S. Grant, Worksop Road, Masterton, to William John Campbell, also of Masterton. The engagement is announced ofAgnes, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Woodham, 11 Kiwi Street, Lower Hut-t, and William Hart, only son of Mr and Mrs W. Hart, 19 Gear Street, Petone. Mr. Norman Lee, who was appointed Managing-Secretary to the Wairarapa Hospital Board in succession to • the late Mr. H. F. Green, arrived in J* Masterton yesterday. Mr. Lee, who was appointed to the position out of 160 applicants, was formerly AssistantSecretary to the Wanganui Hospital Board. .

A London cablegram reports the death of the Rt. Rev. Bishop Charles Gore. Born in 1853, Dr. Gore achieved noteworthy distinction, not only in the church but in the educational sphere and as a writer on theological and other subjects. He was Bishop of Worcester, 19U2-04, Bishop of Birmingham, 1905-11, and Bishop of Oxford, 1911-19.

The Rev. Robert Erwin, M.A., D.D., one of the best known Presbyterian ministei'6 in New Zealand, who died at Christchurch on Saturday, at the age of 77 years, was born at Belfast, Ireland. He was educated at the Queen’s University, and studied divinity at the Assembly College, Belfast. Owing to ill-health, ho resided for seven months at Otahuhu, near Auckland. In the same year he received a call to Christchurch, where he was minister of the Knox Presbyterian Church until recently. Dr. Erwin took a prominent part in church government, and was Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly ‘in 1897. The degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred upon him by the Assembly College, Belfast, in 1897.

The late Mr. James John Urquhart was born at Inverness, Scotland, in. 1855 and came to New Zealand in 1865 at the age of 10'years, residing with his parents in Greytown, Wairarapa, for some years, removing from there to Featherston, where he took up small farming. He was married in St. Peter’s Church, Wellington, in 1882, to the eldest daughter of the late William Henderson. Going to the Waimate Plains he resided there for some years, removing from there to Danncvirke, where lie had lived for the past 24 years. Being of a kindly disposition he was beloved b f all who knew him. The following family are left: Donald (Waipukurau), Gordon (Dannevirke); Mrs W. Coldstream (Rua Roa); Mrs. F. Williams (Dannevirke), Mrs. H. Walker (Hastings), Mrs. G. Walker (Burs Street, Dannevirke). There are aiso 29 grandchildren.
