Much excitement and worry followed on* a report that a heavy coal freighter in a dense fog off Long Island, had rammed the coastguard destroyer Herndon, with a c-rew .of ninety-five, q-fie Herndon is a highly-prized vesse of the anti-rum forces. i The Herndon, with her port plates split, was lost in the fog for a lengthy period.
