As tho result of a conversation bctAveen the Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, and the Japanese Ambassador on January 8 in regard to the situation in Manchuria, the Japanese Ambassador called at tho Foreign Office yesterday and conveyed from his Government express assurances in reference to Japan’s disclaimer of territorial ambitions in Manchuria.
He gave an assurance also of Japan’s intention to respect the principles of the “open door” and of the Nine-PoAV-cr Treaty. —8.0. W.
