A DRAWN GAME.
CANTERBURY AT NAPIER
HASTINGS, Friday
The cricket match Hawke’s Bay v. ,Canterbury, played at Napier, concluded in a draw to-day. The visitors, after completing the first innings, had 250 to their credit, Powell and Roberts contributing 7S and 58 respectively. The Bay’s second innings produced -06, and when Canterbury went to the crease on the second occasion it required 201 to win, but at stumps had' secured only 106 for the loss of seven wickets. POOR BATTING. SOUTH AFRICA v. TASMANIA. HOBART, Friday. The South Africans commenced their second match against Tasmania to-day in splendid weather and on an excellent wicket. Tasmania won the toss and batted first. A good start was made, 82 being compiled for the first wicket, but afterwards the bowlers obtained the mastery and the Tasmanians were all out for 164. South Africa lost Mitchell _ for a single and Christy for nil, las first duck of the tour, and two were out tor four runs. Dalton, with the first ball from Nash, got an ugly hit on the jaw and was assisted from the field. The third wicket fell for seven and the fourth for 25. Viljoen and Morkel stayed the collapse, taking the total to 84, when Viljoen was caught off Nash. Scores at stumps were:— TASMANIA. First Innings.
