UNEMPLOYMENT
AN AWKWABD SYSTEM. CHANGE ÜBGED. ¥ > WELLINGTON, Friday,
“I think we should urge the Government to try to alter the present system by allowing each man to work four weeks out of four, even if the number of days is reduced,” said the chairman (Mr. J. I. Goldsmith) at a meeting, of the Wellington Unemployment Committee yesterday afternoon. “At present we don’t know where we are. The system is very awkward. If we could persuade the Government or the Unemployment Board to allow the work every week it would be a considerable help.”
Mr. F. Cornwell said that they had always opposed the dropping of one week in four. Men were thrown on to the Board and got behind in their rent.
It was decide 3 to make strong reprethe Government asking for the ingested alteration in the system. — (P.A.) ■
