TRUST LANDS TRUST

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Trust Lands Trust was held last night, Mr E. G. Eton presiding in the absence of the chairman. Those present were: Messrs. R. Krahagen, T. F. Watson, G. Selby, D. Caselberg, T. Wagg and W. H. Jackson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. J. M. Coradine and J. L. Hughes. The Trust solicitors forwarded a copy of a letter received from the Wairarapa Rugby Union solicitors advising that the Union would prefer the lease of the Memorial "Park to start from March 1 next. They would, however, further communicate with the Union to ascertain whether it would agree to "the date suggested by _ the Trust. The Union would not be liable for the survey charges, the letter pointed out.

The only portion of the Park that would need to be surveyed, said Mr Eton, was that to be set aside for public tennis courts. He fully agreed with the Union’s view and thought that the tennis people should be responsible for the payment of the survey costs. “We can’t ask the Union to pay it,” he said.

Other members concurred with the opinion expressed by the chairman. Eventually it was decided that the Trust pay the survey c-osts and Mr A. \V. Reynolds was appointed to carry out the survey.

Observing that it was a time for stringent economy, the Assistant Land Registrar, Wellington, wrote stating that it, was impossible to send an officer of the Department to Masterton to confer with the Trustees with reference to placing the Trust under the Land Transfer Act. The letter suggested that the matter should be placed in the hands of the Trust solicitors for completion. Mr Eton pointed out that the work would be greatly facilitated by a visit of a departmental officer and lie suggested that the Government be asked to send an officer up, the Trust to pay his expenses. The suggestion was adopted. Stating that the Borough Council waj interested in the matter, Mr G. Selby suggested that the council should be asked to send a representative to the proposed conference with the departmental official. ' .

Members agreed with the suggestion and a-motion was passed accordingly. An application for a lease of a vacant portion of a property owned by the Trust was received from the Masterton Dental Clinic. It is proposed to erect a new dental clinic building on the section. The clinic asked that the lease be granted to the Wellington Education Board which would be pleased to know the terms by January 20. The Trust was in full sympathy with the Dental Clinic and recognised the good work it was doing, said Mr Eton. ■He did not, however, see any reason why the Education Board should be granted the lease at a peppercorn rental as was suggested when the matter was discussed at a recent meeting of the Trust. . The secretary (Mr C. V. Yates) sail that the rental received from the present lease was £6 l ßs 6cl a £ ear ’ which was about 5 per cent, on the capital valuation. Rates amounted to about £2 or £3 a year. On the motion of Mr D. Caselberg, it was decided to advise the board that the lease would be granted on the same terms as those- of the present lessee. , The Masterton Scout Troop wrote thanking the Trust for its annual grant The treasurer reported a credit bal ance of £196 9s Bd. Rentals received for the month amounted to £651 2s 2d, including £266 10s lOd late rentals.
