BRIDGE COLLAPSES

lorry in stream. HAMILTON, This Day. The collapse of a bridge over the Ruakiwi Stream hurled a double-decker lorry, carrying S 4 lanrbs, into the stream 30ft. below. The lorry landed wheels up, but fortunately the engine rested on a bank enabling the driver, J. Hampstead, make his escape. He had an arm broken and received severe bruises.

The lorry was wrecked and 53 lambs were killed.
