DANNEVIRKE SHOW

Those who intend competing at the Dannevirke A. and P. Show on February 9th. and 10th. next may forward their entries either to the Show secretary at Dannevirke, or to Mr. G. Keg. Cook, secretary of the Waipukurau A. and P. Asoeiation, as both societies are working in conjunction, Waipukurau not holding a show undei its own auspices this year. In the sheep section, it should be noted that special prizes are allotted to Romneys—£2 10s for first and £1 5s for second, where there are four or more entries. The Hewitt challenge cup goes to the best group of three, to consist of one two-tooth ram, one four-tooth ram, and one two-tooth ewe, to be taken from sheep competing in other classes. Four new classes have been added to the schedule—one ram and one ewe under 21 months, and one ram and one ewe lamb. Foi judging competitions under 18 and over 18 years of age post entries may be made on the second day of the Show (Wednesday). Local Southdown breeders will be competing for the first time for a cup for most points, while the New Zealand A. and P. Association of the North Island will donate gold medals for champion Southdown ram and ewe. Animals eight months and under are ineligible to compete for the championship, and all animals entered must be registered in the herd book or be eligible for entry in same. There must be three or more exhibits in the classes from which the champions are selected. In the fat lamb section, the numbers have this year in all classes been reduced from four to three, while there are special classes for novices, those who have never won a first prize for fat sheep or lambs in open classes at any A. and P. show at time of entry. There are four classes for fleece wool, shorn this season, date of shearing to be stated on the entry form, and exhibits can be forwarded to the secretary for benching. The sheep classes throughout contain many valuable special and challenge prizes, and give the breeder and the farmer every inducement to enter the ranks of exhibitors.
