STUD SHEEP SALE
POOR BIDDING. MANY PENS PASSED IN,
The Wairarapa Stud Sheepbreeders’ fourteenth annual stud ram and ewe sale opened at Solway Showgrounds this morning.
There was a fair bench of buyers. Romney ewes, Lincoln rams and Southdown ewes were offered and met with a poor reception. The majority failed to raise a bid and, of the thirty pens offered, all but two were passed in. This was no reflection on the quality of the stock, which was quite up to the standard of the previous years and, in the opinion of several farmers who attended the Feilding sale yesterday, was superior to the animals offered there. Rather was it a reflection of the financial conditions in the farming world to-day.
Ninety-eight pens of stud Romney rams are being offered this afternoon; and should meet with a better sale.
The two lots sold this morning were both Lincoln rams. One one-shear, on account of H..J. Raynor, to W. Ravner, “The Cliffs,” brought 11 gns., while the other, a two-shear, sold on account of A. D. McMaster, went to W. F. Barton, Featherston, for 12 gns.
