DISTRICT SPORTS CLUB

MAURICEVILLE MEETING. A POPULAR GATHERING. Tho president, ill- D. Bennett, presided at the annual meeting of the Mauriceville District Sports Club. Arrangements were discussed for the club’s annual gathering, to be held in Mr A. E. Clarke’s paddock, Mauriceville East, on Saturday, March 5. “Owing to the disastrous earthquake in Hawke’s Bay and the urgent call for funds for relief,” stated the annual report, which waas adopted, “your committee donated £lO from the club’s funds and decided that the net profit from the sports meeting and dance should be donated to the same purpose. In all, the club forwarded £22 to the fund. No doubt owing to

the financial stringency, our gross receipts show a decrease, but not to the 'same extent as most sports bodies, which goes to prove the undoubted populardity of our local meeting and it only needs the full co-operation of all members to ensure the further success of the club. The thanks of the club are due to those who assisted with donations and entries; to Air A. E. Clarke, for the use of his grounds; to the ladies’ committee; to the Arcadian Orchestra, for their free services; to the hall society for the free use of the Hall for the dance; to the Masterton Pipe Band, who also gave their services free and to the judges and officials who worked so hard to make the meeting the success it undoubtedly was.” The following'officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patrori, Mr J. L. Heckler; president, Mr D. Bennett; deputy-president, Mr B. A. Cameron; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Mallabar, A. Donald, B. Judd, W. Janies, N. Johnson, F. Stowell. B. Garland, A. M. Colquhoun, at. Welch, X. H. Pearce, L. Field, A. Henderson, M. Mcßeynolds; lion, auditor, Mr W. P. Carter; delegate to Sub-Centre, Mr C. M. Strouts; delegates to Horse Sports Federation, Messrs. F. Tildesley, W. Whale, I. Tomlin; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr E. W. Cheetham.
