WOOL MARKET
EXPERT’S COMMENT. LONDON, Sunday. The wool expert, Mr Devereux, reports that movement in the wool markotts is more.largely governed by international finance and opiltical actions than the usual trade factors. The movement for the reduction of tariff barriers is growing on the Continent and Belgian and French manufacturers discussed definite proposals to be placed before another meeting a fortnight hence. The firmer tendency of the Australian markets combined with the growing feeling that something definite will result from the Lausanne Conference, has stiffened the attitude of topmakers and spinners. Merino tops are slightly firmer, and crossbred tops are unchanged. Very little new business is being done, except in dress goods. The coating and hosiery sections are fiat. SYDNEY SALES. Thero Avas good all-round competition the prices showing a hardening tendency. On lines of quality there was an advance of 5 per cent. Greasy Merino made 16-Jd.
The average price for the wool auctioned last Avcek Avas £lO/5/3 a bale, or 8.06 d a pound.
