VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME. The visit of Mr W. H. Winsor, secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, to Sydney, in order to compie e arrangements for the visit ot the South African team to New Zealand, appears to have been well worth while. . The fifth Test will now begin on February 11, which should give the South Africans ample time to finish the match and reach Sydney in time to leave for Auckland on February 19. , It. is expected that the New Zealand Cricket Council will announce the definite programme for the Dominion tour within the next few days. Ihe l-roM-sional programme provided for matches against Auckland and Wellington and a Test match against New Zealand at Christchurch.
reply to me. hay. ■CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. “Whilst the New Zealand Cricket Council is happy at all times to receive suggestions that appear to be tor the betterment of the game, it is difficult to discern anything of practical use m Mr. Hay’s remarks,” said Mr. R. RCaygill, chairman of the New Zealan Cricket Council, replying to a statement made on Saturday by Mr. Hay, manager of the 1927 New Zealand team. Mr. Hay said that there was room for better organisation, and advocated the employment of a full-time pai secretary. . Mr. Caygill said that the appointment would involve much increased expense, which was hout of the question these times. “Incidentally,” he said, “it will be of interest to recall that the Australian control of cricket is arranged very much on the same lines as our own, and the secretary of the Board of Control is not a full-time secretary.” Mr. 'Caygill said that the objects or the council were being accomplished with the present organisation, and the fact that no fewer than nine tours had been arranged in the past eleven years demonstrated that something very definite had been done.—(P.A.).
