BETTER TIMES AHEAD.
The year Avhose term has just closed has knoAvn but little of the sun of cheerfulness. The spectre of privation has stalked gloomily along its way in Masterton; evil days and the fear of worse ones, have been its common gift. But though there has been a most difficult time experienced in Masterton during the past year its citizens have put up a brave fight and have met each reverse in a spirit Avhich augurs Avell for the future. But bad times cannot always continue. Opportunity, which knocks so seldom, is knocking at our door to-day. It behoves us to answer the summons Avith promptitude, lest we find it to be. a runaway knock, and that the capricious jade has disappeared before Ave can lay hands upon her. Let ‘as in Masterton then be up and doing’, with a heart for aught that mus. befall; eager to grasp tlie skirts of happy chance and ready, it need be, to breast the bloAvs of circumstance. There are bettei times ahead, and let us realise our opportunity, for only thus shall we be master of our fate and captain of our soul.
