BIRTH CONTROL

AN INTERESTING SITUATION. (Received Friday, 11.45 -a.m.) LONDON, Thursday. Dr. Marie Stopes has accepted an invitation from Signor Mussolini to lecture in Rome on birth control. Signor Mussolini is expected to preside. It will be interesting to observe the Vatican’s reaction to the Duee’s move in view of the Pope’s recent condemnation of birth control. IS IT A HOAX? (Received Friday, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, Thursday. The invitation, as eabled, is featured in- the evening papers but appears to be a hoax. Dr. Stopes, interviewed, affirmed definitely that she had received the invitation. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent, however, has cabled: “The invitation is a hoax. If -she confirms it she herself is hoaxed.” The correspondent adds that any such action, would be illegal in Italy. •
