IMPROVEMENT SCHEMES.

Any proposal that has for its object the improvement of the appearance of the town of Masterton should have the support of the people generally, providing it is not on a scale out of proportion to a reasonable expenditure. There are at present suggestions before the Borough Council for the improvement of the approaches to Queen street from the south and north, and in both instances such work would be of an utility character. Of course, it is all a matter of finance, and at the present time the Council could hardly he expected to adopt a scheme or schemes involving the expenditure of a considerable sum of money. If the opportunity . presents itself for the Council to carry out the work of improving the north and south entrances to the town without additional burden to the ratepayers, then the Council should seize it. Work for the unemployed might be found on such improvement schemes.
