CI-IA M PIONSHIP TOCRNEY
Excellent progress lias been made in the St. Matthew's Tennis Club’s championship tourney. The men's singles and doubles have been completed, J. Jenkins winning the singles title with A. Crookenden as runner-up, while Messrs. R. Hatch and 11. Ede secured the doubles honours by defeating R. Gemstone and E. Jenkins in the final. Good headway has been made in the ladies’ singles and doubles, also the combined doubles. It is anticipated that the finals will be reached in these CA'cnts* on Saturday. Great interest is being shown in the tourney by the members of this young and active club and the season now drawing to a close will undoubtedly go down as a most successful one for the St. Matthew's Club. Details of championship events completed are as follows: —- MEN'S SINGLES. First Round. —A. Crookenden beat R. Penis-tone, 6/5, 6/1; 11. Edc beat R. Jenkins, 6/4, 6/4; R. Hatch beat E. Sharpe, 6/0, 6/1. Second round: A. Bollons beat P. Lowis, 6/6, 6/5; A. Crookenden beat 11. Ede, 5/6, 6/5, 6/4; J. Jenkins beat R. Hatch, 6/1, 6/2; R. Stidolph beat K. Montgomery, 4/6, 6/2, 6/2. Semi-finals: A. Crookenden beat A. Bollons, 5/6, 6/5, 6/4; J. Jenkins won by default from R. Stidolph. Final: J. Jenkins beat A. Crookenden, 6/5, 6/3. MEN’S DOUBLES. First Round: A. Crookenden and T. Lowis beat J. Jenkins and K. Montgomery; R. Hatch and H. Ede beat A. Bollons and R. Stidolph, 6/2, 6/4. Second Round: R. Penistone and E. Jenkins beat A. Crookenden and T. Lowis, 6/5, 5/6, 6/4; R. Hatch and H. Edc beat E. Sharpe and W. Hawke, 6/1, 6/2. Final: IL Hatch and H. Ede beat R. Penistone and E. Jenkins, 6/2, 6/3.
