Jamieson bought two colts—one by Brazen for ISO guineas, and the other, a Magpie colt, for 90 guineas. J. W. Lowe paid 30 guineas for a Shellinglee colt. TURF NOTES. Arrow Lad had every chance in the Great Easter, being well placed in the leading division from the start, but he faded "out in disappointing fashion as soon as the straight was reached. His form was a long wav below what he showed when he finished third to Silvermine and Laughing Prince in the Thompson Handicap at TrentJmm last month.
Gallant Fox created a very favourable impression by the style in which he disposed of the opposition in the Russley Plate. He was one of the leaders from the rise of the barrier, and ho had the result in safe keeping • a long way from home. He is a wellgrown colt by Hunting Song, his dam, Smoke Concert, being an Australianbred mare by Land of Song from Smoky, by The AVelkin, from a daughter of 'William the Third. It is a pedigree that suggests stamina, and Gallant Fox may make a good three-year-old.
Cricket Bat was responsible for a good performance in the Champagne Stakes. He never looked like overhauling Golden AVings, but he was in second place practically all the way, and his stamina enabled him to hold his position till the finish. He scored a brilliant win in the Challenge Stakes yesterday, downing Nightmarch by a length.
