ALLEGED THREATS.

CLERK ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Alexander Lawson McLeod, a clerk, aged 58, who’ was arrested at Newmarket on Monday morning appeared at the S.M. Court at Auckland, charged that on December 1 last he sent to Alma Grey a letter containing threats to kill her sons. Mr Noble, appearing for the accused, asked that McLeod be released on bail. “He is a decent sort of a man,” said. ‘‘l think it’s only a joke. Why, it’s preposterous,” added counsel. "1 think he had been to the pictures and had seen ' Dr. Fu Manchu’ and then went home ’ and wrote a letter to his sister-in-law,” said Mr Noble. The Magistrate fixed bail at £IOO.
