WATERSIDE WORK.
VOLUNTARY LABOUR,
ENGAGED BY SHIPOWNERS. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Wednesday, 9.0 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Tuesday. Shipowners in Alelbournre, acting upon legal opinion, are re-engaging volunteer labour from the Permanent and Casual Wharf Labourers’ Union, despite the Government’s regulation enforcing preference to members of the Waterside Workers’ Federation. Air Brennan, the Federal AttorneyGeneral, has warned shipowners that the Government’s regulation is still valid, notwithstanding the Senate’s rejection. The shipowners, however, have been advised differently, and have decided to put the regulation to the test. Litigation is likely.
