LOOTERS SHOT.
MANAGUA EARTHQUAKE. SEVERAL UGLY AFFRAYS. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright MANAGUA, Sunday. A series of untoward incidents, due principally to conflicts between the natives and the Americans, who arc administering relief or enforcing military law, have added to the tragedy of the earthquake disaster. A member of the American marines shot and killed a lieutenant of the Nicaraguan National Guard, and was himself machine-gunned to death by a native soldier. To-day an announcement that the American authorities would feed no native men who declined to dig folthe dead in the debris resulted in an unpleasant situation, with many natives not appearing for rations. Four looters were shot to-day by the military. It is understood that 20 have been executed since last Tuesday. Five natives digging in the debris for trifles were killed by falling walls in a brief earthquake to-day.
A total of 825 bodies have been removed from the ruins thus far. A hundred are known to be buried under the collapsed hospital alone.
