FARMER’S UNION.
[WOMEN'S DIVISION. FUNCTION AT MAURICEVILLE. The Indian party and dance held in the Mauriceville Hall on Saturday last to celebrate the first birthday of the Mauriceville-Ihuraua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was a great success in every way. The hall, decorated in Indian fashion by the Misses Jackson, was soon filled with eager young Indians of all sides, who, led by their “Big Chief” (Mr Ivan Jackson) had a merry time with games and dancing and afterwards at supper. Mrs C. C. Jackson (Dominion President) who was present, cut the birthday cake made by Mrs E. Dagg (branch president) and iced by Mrs Mortensen. Mrs Jackson congratulated the branch on its rapid growth and said she hoped that this celebration would result in a still bigger membership. During the evening bouquets were presented to Mrs Jackson and Mrs Dagg by two little Indian girls. Mrs A. Donald, president of the Master ton branch, was present. Much credit for the success of the function is due to Miss Roma Jackson, who made many of the costumes and arranged the entertainment programme for the children. The music was supplied by the Donald brothers, Ivopuaranga, and many thanks are due to them for their contribution to the celebration. After the children’s entertainment a dance for adults was held. A raffle of home-made sweets (given by Mrs Carter) was won by Mrs McRae. The committee, which supplied an excellent supper, was as follows: — Mrs Dagg (president), Mrs I. Cameron and Miss G. Heckler (vice-presi-dents); Miss Brunten (secretary), and Mesdames Bird, Freeman, Algie, Watkins, Mortensen, Trass, Palmer and Hodgins.
