THE BRITISH TEAM. VIEWS ON THE WING-FORWARD. (Received Thursday, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, Wednesday. The British Rugby team landed at Plymouth. Mr Baxter, .referring to the wingforward controversy, declared that what he actually said was that the wing forward could not interfere with the half back unless the former was off side. If he deliberately manoeuvred into an off side position in order to interfere with the half back then he was a deliberate cheat. “I found the majority of the authorities in New Zealand anxious to abolish the wing forward,” he said. “Tlio majority of the spectators had the same view, though nothing could at present be done in the way of a common agreement. Anyway Britain could not; dictate to the Dominions.” Mr Baxter said that the New Zealand grounds were magnificent, but the hardness of the Australian and the presence of bull! .soil, containing poisonous constituents, caused the Britishers a lot of trouble and injuries. Mr Baxter was of opinion that there was no great improvement in Australian or New Zealand play. The Australians were not equal to the Waratahsi Captain Prentice declared that New Zealand’s wing forward policy caused the Britishers to alter their entire game. They were for' a long while disorganised behind the serums. “The New Zealand forwards were faster than ourg but our backs were faster. We should have won three tests,” he said.
