m^ r NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY. (By Telegraph —Press Association). WELLINGTON, Thursday. The thirty-fourth annual championship meeting of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union opened on the Heretaunga links to-day. The principal event to-day was the inter-Island match between teams of eight. This resulted in a sweeping victory for the North Island by six games to two. Miss Bessie Gaisford, of Marton, beat Mrs Dodgshun, of Dunedin, New Zealand champion, *by 4up and 3. The sensation of the day was Miss Olive Kay’s victory over Mrs Guy Williams (Masterton) by such a margain as 8 up and 7. A large field entered for the foursomes championship for the Hawke’s Bay cups, but here again the golf was not up to the best New Zealand standard. The winners turned up in Mrs Guy Williams and Miss Watson. A foursome handicap competition was played in conjunction with the foursome championship, and resulted in a win for Miss M. Whyte and Mrs J. Stott.
