POLITICAL CONTROL.
OF N.Z. ELECTRIC SYSTEM. OUTSPOKEN REMARKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. ‘ 1 The time has arrived for the establishment of a commission to take control of the national electric system, and the disestablishment of political control,” declared Mr Dean, chairman of the Franklin Power Board, at Pukekohe. “The industry has become too large for sectional control by the works department, and, in any case, electrical generation and control should not be the function of that department. A deplorable example of political control has just been reported. I refer to the stopping and starting of work upon th.o exploration tunnels at Arapuni by outside j>oliticians. How far political intrigue has been penetrating the electrical policy of tlie country during the last few years it is difficult to estimate.”
The Board decided to urge that the electric branch of the works department bo placed under electric supply commissioners.
