HAWKE OOP,

WON BY RANGITIKEI

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Monday. Requiring 207 runs to Tetain the Hawko Cup, and with eight wickets in hand, Manavvatu played a sterling innings to-day against Rangitikei, to fall short of the required total by 4 runs. The game was one of the most exciting ever played on a Palmerston North sports ground. Facoy, who continued his second innings from 72, took his score to 158, and Gallichan ably supported him, the partnership yielding 131, Gallichan ’s total being 79. Butler, the last man in, was obviously out through nervousness. The scores were: Rangitikei, first innings, 177; second innings, 474. Manawaiu, first innings, 295; second innings, 352 (Pacey 158, Gallichan 79, Vicker 40). (Wairarapa is now in a position to challenge for the trophy).
