TURF NOTES. Aspiring and Silver Paper have been scratched for their engagements' in classic races at the Wellington meeting. Bright Glorv was withdrawn from the Thompson Handicap yesterday. In the Shade w r as withdrawn from the same event at 12.55 p.m. Royal Parade was taken out of all his Trentham engagements at 10.05 u.m. yesterday. Tho Otago gelding, Royal Saxon, claims two engagements on the opening day at Trentham, as he is an acceptor for the Thompson Handicap and the Railway Handicap. He is a very solid customer, liable to raee well in either event. The four-year-old mare, Pride, will accompany the three-year-olds, Jaloux and Swiftray, •to Trentham this week. Slio, will run on the first day in the North Island Challenge Stakes, but she may not be at her best in that raee, as her racing record makes a seven furlong journey appear too short, in a field which includes some speedy young gallopers. Pride has proved her ability to stay, and a race like the Great Autumn should suit her. Hoylake has no engagement on the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting, but he will make the trip to Trentham this week, to compete on the second day. The imported horse is in good order at present. He put up a very creditable performance when he ran second to Waterline in the Midsummer Handicap last month, and he looks an excellent prospect for autumn engagements.
